Your Quit

It Keeps Getting Better

Keeps Getting BetterI’m often told by quitters that the only time they think about tobacco anymore is when they visit the site or the forums.  My standard response to this is, “Me too… that’s why I keep visiting.”  The truth of the matter is that I don’t WANT to forget my addiction.  I never want to forget what it was like to not be able to sleep cause I was so jittery.  I never want to forget what it was like to not be able to concentrate for hours at a time cause I was craving a dip so bad.  I never want to forget how bad my mouth hurt because I had chewed a bag and a half of sunflower seeds in one day.  I don’t want to forget, because when I forget that’s when slips happen and I’m not willing to allow that to happen – ever.

Last week, the first member of my quit group hit 4 years quit.  I remember well those days way back in October 2006 when we were hitting the hall.  It was (and still is) and amazing accomplishment.  But I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that even though my quit group has MANY fewer members these days, the celebration of 4 years is so much more.  Actually, it’ll probably be talked about and celebrated less.  But the bonds that have formed in those 4 years are bonds that will never be broken.  We are truly a family these days and standing beside those guys each and every day on roll continues to fortify my quit.

Quitters that are entering the hall shortly:  Congratulations… you’re well on your way to a life of freedom!

Quitters that are just starting out: Hang in there… it gets MUCH better!!!

UPDATE: WE’RE GETTING READY TO HIT 17 YEARS OF FREEDOM… IT’S STILL GETTING BETTER.
