Jake’s Mint Chew Sour Grape Pouches Review

Jake's Mint Chew Sour Grape SquareBack today with the first of a few new product reviews that I’ve got on my plate. First up is a Jake’s Mint Chew – Sour Grape!

I’m going to keep this rather brief as I’ve been told that ‘all of my reviews read the same’. And while I apologize for that I try to make each review I write ‘stand alone’ so that if someone runs across JUST this review they’ll have an understanding of what this particular product is like without having to go back and read all of my previous reviews.

Jake’s has been really consistent with their products through the years and off the top of my head they are the alternative manufacturer with more flavor variety than any other. At this point it really boils down to personal preference. Some of them I love and others I’m not a fan of. Again, your mileage may vary.

All of their pouch products use the same pouch material and produce a good amount of saliva (even if the pouch itself isn’t super moist). I test using TWO pouches which seems about right in terms of flavor and longevity of the chew. There aren’t too many GRAPE varieties out there on the market and it’s been a while since I’ve had one. These smell good when you crack into he can, which is a high quality plastic tin and won’t crush if you sit on it. Smell reminds me a bit of the purple Now and Laters I used to have growing up at the roller rink.

I got a decent amount of saliva here, but with Jake’s products you don’t need to spit if you don’t want to. Purely from a ‘cleanup’ perspective I appreciate that. These Sour Grape pouches are more moist than I remember Jake’s pouches to be. If I’m being honest I’m not sure I would know these are ‘grape’ based on the taste alone – the smell is what puts it over the top for me.

I did get a tinge of ‘dish soap’ flavor here the first time I tried them, but that may be the way my brain is interpreting the ‘sour’ here. I didn’t get that same flavor on subsequent samplings. Overall I’d say these are a mild recommend. Not my least favorite Jake’s flavor but not near the top either. I’ll be interested in hearing some additional feedback on these.
