No Drop in Smokeless Tobacco Use Among U.S. Workers: CDC

CDC LogoI saw this article float across my timeline this morning and I simply had to share it. There’s a slew of folks these days on the “harm reduction” kick talking about how smokeless tobacco is SO much safer than cigarettes.  According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), smokeless tobacco is,  “A known cause of oral, esophageal and pancreatic cancer.”  If you’re looking for a reason to quit, that’s good enough for me.

I do find it REALLY unfortunate that HealthDay chose to use a tin of Mint Snuff on their story as it contains no nicotine and no tobacco.

UPDATE: I sent a note to HealthDay asking about the image they used.  They’ve updated their image, so I’ve done the same.

UPDATE #2: I’ve been asked by HealthDay to remove the article and I’m gladly complying. Until I have the opportunity to re-write I’ll simply link you to the original source that they are citing: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6322a1.htm?s_cid=mm6322a1_w

UPDATE #3: The article that I originally cited comes from a report produced by the CDC entitled Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR).  Here is the full report in PDF format.

Mining and construction, sure those are hotbeds. But my experience at KTC tells me there are a few other hotbeds– attorneys, accountants, vets, pharmacy, Fire/EMT.
