Your Quit

Reinvigorating My Quit

Lakewood Meet - June 2015 (1)I had the pleasure of meeting a new quitter the other day… and it sent my quit back into overdrive. Four of us got together recently. I’m at 3,200 days, Steve1357 is at 1,400, spence249 is at 480 and EOD 1 was on day 26. I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun I had talking with these guys!

I post roll every day for a lot of reasons. It keeps me quit. It’s my daily promise to myself and to my quit brothers that I won’t dip today. Another reason I post roll is so that I never forget that I’m just $5 and a bad decision away from my addiction. Talking to other quitters helps me remember as well. Talking to a guy on day 26 really brought me back. It helped me to remember everything that I went through to get where I am today – free. It didn’t hurt that EOD was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. He’s absolutely KILLING his quit. And to see that enthusiasm and pride in his quit brought back those same feelings to me. I’m proud to be a quitter.

As we move forward in our quits we start to get complacent. It becomes easier to be quit. Withdrawal is done, sleep returns to normal and daily triggers are no longer a problem. But that complacency can kill a quit. For me, posting roll and meeting other quitters, especially other quitters at different stages of their quit helps me to maintain the intensity that got me over those humps early on.

I’m proud to call these guys my friends. They help keep me quit. And in this marathon we call quitting, every little bit helps. If you’ve never attended a quitter meet I’d strongly urge you to get out there and do it! You’ll be glad you did.
