2011 HOF Speeches

caseyCdA HOF Speech

caseyCdA avatarI would like to thank KTC and all my fellow quit brothers and sister in the August 2011 HOF. We had a big group to start with but as the days, weeks, and months went on the group was distilled down to make a potent group of very dedicated people. Dedicated to their quit and dedicated to their fellow group members’ quit. The cream definitely rose to the top and like me, they are grateful that they don’t have to wake up every day a slave to the nic bitch.

For all of you who we lost during the process (all 57 of you) I encourage you to try again. The success rate in our group was 37/94 = 39.4%, compared to the 5% success rate that physicians site for people who go cold turkey without support. I would say that is a success. This is for people who are quit after a year, so unless 32 of the 37 quitters in the HOF decide to cave in the next 250 days or so (Which I know won’t happen) I would say that the KTC system of support and accountability is a success.

Personally I have quit many times. Some quits lasted for weeks, some for months, some even for years, so I know how easy it is to think all is going well, become weak, and slip up. I know that by being held accountable to others and not just myself I will make the promise to quit with my fellow quitheads everyday. For those of you just tooling around this site thinking of quitting I have a few words of advice for you:

  1. Don’t delay…pick a quit date…decide to join a quit group and do it.
  2. There is never going to be an easy time to quit…don’t wait until a stress free time, because that time doesn’t exist.
  3. Post roll everyday…by renewing your pledge to be quit for that day you will find it a lot easier to get through the hard times.
  4. Get phone numbers of people in your quit group…these will be helpful at times when you can’t post roll and time’s you don’t think you’re going to make it through.
  5. Quit one day at a time…you can’t eat a cow in a day, but by having a juicy steak every night (and occasionally some rump roast) you will eventually accomplish what seems impossible.
  6. You will always be an addict. Accept it and realize that you can’t have just one without going back to chewing the same amount before you quit.

That’s all I’ve got for now. Good luck to all who are quit or are thinking of quitting. Congratulations to all of the August Quitheads. I will continue to post roll and be quit with you!
