As the day winds down on September 11th, 2012, I feel compelled to write just a few words. I’ve never been a military man, I’ve never been a police officer and I’ve never been a fireman. I’ve never been a doctor, I’ve never been a politician and I’ve never been any sort of public servant.
I’m a dad. I’m a husband. I’m a brother, a son, a friend, a co-worker.
I’m a quitter.
I’m an American.
September 11th is a very moving day for me. It always has been and it always will be. I look at images of the attacks more than once a year. Just as with my quit, I don’t WANT to forget. It’s certainly not because I enjoy these atrocities. But when we get complacent, that’s when evil may strike again. September 11th is a day to remember. Not only do we owe it to ourselves to never let our guard down again, but we owe it to the men, women and children that died that day.
We owe it to the first responders. We owe it to the police and fire fighters who headed IN to a building as thousands of people were trying desperately to get out. We owe it to the thousands of people who defend our freedoms on a daily basis to this very day. We owe it to all of those who protect our way of life.
My most sincere gratitude, thanks and respect. I will never forget.
