Jake’s Mint Chew Pouches Re-Review

Jake's Mint Chew Pouches Re-ReviewBack in April I posted my review of Jake’s Mint Chew pouches. Like all Jake’s products they tasted and smelled great but they were much dryer than I’d anticipated from a pouch product. At least in my opinion they needed to be “doctored” to be representative of a true pouch product.

As they’ve done in the past, Jake’s listened to its customers (not just me… they’d gotten similar feedback from many of their customers) and have changed their product to address the issues. And they’ve knocked it out of the park.

Jake’s Mint Chew Pouches Re-Review

Just as with my previous review, all three flavors smelled great upon opening the can. They’re all mint-based products so they smell like, well, mint. The HUGE difference this time that you can see as soon as you open is these are MUCH moister than the previous versions. And that’s a very good thing.

Jake's Mint Chew Pouches Re-Review In CanI went in the same order as before and started with Straight Mint and then went with Wintergreen and finished up with Natural Spearmint. The flavors are still pretty similar between the three in my book but there are subtle differences that set them apart. I’m taking this directly from my previous review as it still holds true:

The Wintergreen for example is much “sweeter” in smell and taste than the Straight Mint and the Natural Spearmint takes that sweetness and amps it up a bit with a “bite” reminiscent of a great tasting after dinner mint that you may get at your favorite restaurant.

From a personal favorite point of view I’d probably put the Wintergreen or Natural Spearmint above the Straight Mint but again that’s personal preference, and remember I was a Kodiak Wintergreen guy for the majority of my dipping days.  The Wintergreen flavor here doesn’t strike me as spot on for any specific brand but the smell definitely brought back memories of Skoal Wintergreen Bandits. The Natural Spearmint flavor reminded me of Skoal Spearmint and the Straight Mint sort of stands alone as a sold mint flavor but didn’t necessarily remind me of any one brand.

All in all this is a great upgrade to the Jake’s Mint Chew Pouches. These products are all organic and all natural so you CAN swallow the juices but the pouches themselves should not be swallowed.
