Whitetail Smokeless ZERO Nicotine – Wintergreen
Started off with Wintergreen. If you’ve read my stuff you know I was a long time Kodiak guy so I’m always interested to see how Wintergreen chews are going to stack up. The flavor here is somewhere between Kodiak and Skoal Wintergreen, probably slightly more toward Skoal which isn’t a bad thing. This truly is an outstanding long cut alternative… probably the closest to an actual “long cut” on the market which has been lacking for quite some time. There are some out there that are close but this is the first one that I’m comfortable calling a long cut. Holds together really well in my mouth, produces a good amount of spit and had a nice deep Wintergreen flavor that is long lasting. Top notch if you’re looking for one of the “big two” traditional dip flavors.
Whitetail Smokeless ZERO Nicotine – Mint
Next up was Mint. To me Skoal Mint is the “gold standard” when it comes to Mint chews so I’m always looking for something to compare favorably to that. Once again a great pack of a moist chew that holds together really well. There are others out there on the market that are probably closer flavor wise to Skoal Mint but I’m not sure there is one that’s closer in texture and cut.
Whitetail Smokeless Recommendation
All in all the folks at Whitetail Smokeless have created a pretty outstanding long cut chew. The Mint tastes the way I want Mint to taste and the Wintergreen tastes the way Wintergreen should taste. Above all they have created what I believe to be the closest thing to a true long cut the smokeless alternative market has to offer today. And that’s a very good thing.
If I’m being honest I’m sort of bummed that yet another maker is coming to the market offering versions of their products that contain nicotine and others that don’t but from a business perspective I understand why they’re doing it. As I always do, I’d warn anyone who’s getting these to truly understand which version of the product they’re getting and I’d STRONGLY suggest them to go with the nicotine free product. Whitetail does a good job with their labeling and on their website so you know just what strength you’re getting though there’s always that slight fear in the back of my mind that I’ve got a mislabeled can. Probably just my hypochondriac mind going crazy even 12 years after I was a dipper 😉
Special thanks to the folks at Whitetail Smokeless for providing me samples to try and review.
