Well I quit back in October, and went cold turkey after 20 years of chewing with multiple attempts in the past. It was crazy, my wife and I decided on Monday that I was done, on Saturday night while driving home from a trip I put my last dip of that can and ended up quitting a day early.

The only real cravings that I have had were that of things I would be doing that I always had a chew like driving to and from work and the nice after lunch chew. After about a week or so those went to the way side.

Smokey mountian grape flavor and natural flavor were nice but there are no places that sale it, so it was a special trip to get any.

So everything is going great right, no cancer, no craving, extra money, and dip free life, well my energy level has crashed. I get up go to work and go to sleep shortly after dinner when I get home. I used to be the power house who would go days on an hour or so of sleep now I need like 10 hours and than some. Also I have gained a total of 20 lbs since I quit. Pants are now starting to get tight!

Has anyone else had this or is having this? I am honestly thinking of chewing again to get my life back! I don’t want to but I miss the energy and I can’t afford to buy new clothing!

Please give me suggestions.

Hello, So proud to hear that you quit first of all. Check out natural energy boosters like A full complete B vitamin complex, ginseng, etc. Research, Research. Also 100% pure black pepper essential oil, clove oil, grapefruit oil and bergamot..It has been proven that people that chew or smoke or drugs are deficient in a lot of different vitamins like B’s and magnesium so they use addiction to get by. Check it all out. Lot to chew on…..

Day 37 for me, it’s been pretty easy for me considering I was a 2 can a day fine cut skoal man for 25 years or more. For the last month or so I’ve been using Chantix and around week 4 decided to kill a craving with Smokey mountain, it was like a sexual climax. Wow! That stuff is so good!! Anyway, here’s a helpful tip. DONT DRINK !! it makes the cravings worse. I was out tonight and had 6-8 beers with my wife and her hot friend, needless to say when my wife and I came home I put in some smokey mountain,. So much for sex tonight 🙁

Had a dream last night, my first dip dream. I had a big fat one in and even in the dream I asked myself what the heck am I doing this for. Took the dip out,it was like one of those whole can dips and flung it on the ground wow it seemed real as heck.

One week quit. Never going back. I’m pissed as hell right now. Feeling duped by the tobacco companies and slightly ashamed to have been a slave for 35 years. Mad at how society just accepts this as normal. I see people buying rolls of this crap and I know how hard it will be for them to quit and that is IF they ever decide to quit. I am very thankful for this site and my very good friend James who found this site and paved a way for me. Rock on quitters! Much love to you all!

Day 4 quit here. Feeling better because the white patch that I mentioned in previous posts has healed. The dentist said it may have been trauma that caused it in the first place. I have had a few cravings and am averaging about 1 dip of smokey mountain a day to deal with the cravings. I really think the smokey mountain helps because when you are craving for a dip it is a good alternative. Also, it doesnt taste that good so it’s not like I’m dipping it all day long. Only when cravings get super high.

Day 5 quit here. What a battle. Been eating like crazy and trying to flush the system with water. Chewing gum, seeds, and toothpicks have all gotten me to this point. As far as a lack of focus, I would have to agree. I just don’t have that normal sharpness but I would hope it will recover shortly.

27 days quit and counting….and keep it up Scott me personally I struggled off the charts the first week, but after it got better and I still do struggle but it has to be a main trigger such as post meals etc.. But I’m right there with ya fighting the good fight…and Brian I send u my prayers and I never had your strength to be proactive by going to the dentist my marine mentality to this day has me stubborn, but good to see you takeing charge… And I got a question gents?? I’m 27 days quit in but my head and focusing and concentrating is unreal to do I feel like a vegetable at times anyone else with the major migraines and lack of ability to focus or concentrate at times through out the days??

Posted on here a few days ago. I went to the dentist today for the first time in 18 months. Partially why I went to the dentist was because I was reading this blog and felt like I needed to be proactive like all of you. I told the dentist I chewed. She did an oral cancer inspection and found a white patch on the roof of my mouth next to my teeth. I know dippers get white patches from time to time, but my dentist seemed concerned and she wanted to see me back in two weeks. Has anyone had their dentist find white patches? If your dentist has was the white patch cancerous. Of course, I am hoping this is enough to scare me to stop chewing.

Yea I hear ya fellas… I’m the same way stress stress stress is my trigger besides after meals Im 26 days quit thank god but I have dreams of dipping n my anxiety goes nuts but my wife evry night massages my head n shoulders and I go to sleep soon after … So have the wife or girl friend communicate and when she sees you going crazy and about to give up have her jump to rub or massage your head and say a prayer or metatate… It’s helped me all these years with a dip all day evry day except for meals kissing my wife and kids with a wad in my mouth, throwing a can in the trash to only see myself fetching it out hours later… It’s a battle gentleman but a battle we will prevail and conquer!!!! Keep up the good work gents!!!!!

I need help. Some support. After 7 days I gave in and bought a tin last night, had two dips and threw it away. Then I went and bought another tonight at 1:00 am. Chewing now. The fake stuff even with the burn of peppermint oil I put in. I’m sick with myself. How do I stop again. I dont want to go another 8 months before trying again. I quit for myself but I dontwant to let my wife down either. Where is my will power and self control? This is ridiculous. Just venting. Peace.

I used to smoke a pack a day and chew at least a can a day. Then one day i was doing my normal thing and i put a dip in and it made me sick. I said to hell with this and quit both at once. Did great too. I quit in 2008 and had not had as much as a craving in 2-3 years. Recently i started having problems at home and i was about to loose my mind. A guy at work said do you chew? For some damn reason i said ya. I took a dip and it felt amazing. I met my wife after i had quit. Come to find out she is deathly allergic to tobacco. So now with the same amount of stress, i am starting the quit cycle again. Can anyone suggest alternative source of stress relief? I know it sounds like an excuse, but that is why i started again. So if i can find an alternative means of stress relief i think it will make it easier. I get enough workout at my job so something other than that please.

I just discovered that “burn” that we’re looking for when chewing fake stuff like Jake’s. I added a few drops of cassia essential oil and and a few drops of peppermint essential oil to the tin. Actually, I poured the tin into a bowl and tossed it around the chew like a salad then put it back in the tin. Gives a burn the entire chew.

Been trying to quit for years, at one time I actually went a full year with no dipping, like a fool I went back to it and have had troubles putting it down ever since. Well, I broke my leg (badly) last Monday and Dr told me that nicotine slows down the healing process (he said this right in front of my wife by the way) so now I am quit for the 4th day. My wonderful wife is waiting on me hand and foot and being really nice so it’s making it pretty easy..

Quit 6 days ago after dipping for 23 years at least a can of Cope snuff a day. The longest I have ever made it was 30 days. Been telling my wife for ten years that I only dip occasionally but it’s a lie. So her being my support system is out. My problem is I love Cope and nothing else tastes like it. My 6 year old asked why he can’t have some of daddy’s gum. I have to quit for good but will need help. Shot I’m a baseball coach so can’t not be around it.

Been 30 days without a dip,I am using patch n fake snuff, I dipped a tin a day of cope then grizzly for 17 years. I’d put one in b4 I hoped outta bed all day long cep to eat.my question is did anyone ever experience the feeling like you lost your edge after quit? Or like you lost part of yourself, it sucks everyday I just tell myself I’m not going to dip today maybe tomorrow and jus sleep on it.

22 days clean today. After more than 30 years with a few periods clean (7, 2, and 1 year) time to stop. I had no health or other issues, simply decided I wasn’t getting any younger and didn’t need it. Good to see the younger folks putting it away. Trying some of the alternatives. Not too impressed and likely won’t repurchase.

Hi all….Day 23 clean here and doing ok….not too computer literate. Anyway on/off dipper from 18 to 44 years of age with some stop times long as a year. Past 15 years extreme ninja dipper….only select few know….finally had enough when noticed a big lump in my lip a month ago….freaked me out…ended up being harmless and gone in 2 weeks, but by then I was 2 weeks clean, and I AM DONE!!! Is it really worth dying for???I figured would be good to have support…..and to lend mine….it will take me awhile to learn to use the sight here….stay strong all

I’ve been dipping for about 7 years now. I would generally go through a can in about 2-3 days. I’ve tried tirelessly to quit over the past few years. I would do anything from throwing a nearly full can out to taking one dip and throwing the remainder away, but I found myself occasionally digging through the trash to find the tin. That’s how bad my addiction was. About three weeks ago I began having difficulty swallowing and I noticed red bumps all over the back of my tongue. I have an appointment with my ent scheduled for Monday, but regardless of the outcome, I am done dipping. I’m 28 years old with a bright future ahead and I’m afraid of losing everything because of my addiction to dip. I’m only five days clean at the moment, but I look forward to taking the journey to being clean with everyone.

Doug, this may sound funny, but as an oral fixation, I have found that rolling up a paper towel and putting it in like a dip works pretty well. I even spit when I am outside just like it is a dip. It especially works once you are past the 72 hr physical addiction and just craving something in your mouth. You can go small dip or go big fatty paper towel dip. You can even make out with your wife with it in, imagine that! Congrats on the QUIT!

You got this thing Jason. Just think how proud we will feel telling people we QUIT tobacco. Some people won’t think it’s a big deal, but we will know what we accomplished. Sure we are thinking about our families as we have made these decisions, but ultimately our quits are about US! Your doing great, don’t go back now. That guy is gone! U are a quitter now! Be proud and carry on!

Hey. I just quit again 6.days ago. I don’t want to die. I’m tired of the way it makes me feel no matter how much I live skoal mint long cut. I’ve had ten tins of Jake’s in desk drawer for months now. This time I only chew a couple times. Everyone says they want a fake chew with a burn. Well, I found it! I added a few drops of cassia essential oil and a few drops of peppermint essential oil to the tin and stirred around with fingers. This fake dip is on fire and I dig it. Plus, don’t feel like having another after this. No nicotine. I’ll gradually stop the fake too since it doesn’t draw you in and I only have one like tonight for a little bit. Peace.

Hello everyone I have wanted to quit for a long time now and finding this site has helped me pick a date and want to do this for myself. It breaks my heart to hat my son say is this soda or spit. No kid should have to ask that. It’s time to kick this habit. Wish me luck! I’m not a big sweets fan any suggestions on the oral fixation part besides jolly ranchers or life savers?
