A Little Late – Rollin’s HOF Speech

Support

I would just like to take some time to share my story in the hopes that it may help convince someone to quit. I’m a lieutenant in a correctional environment which is very stressful at times. On evening the other lieutenant was trying to quit. He had Smoky Mountain Snuff but didn’t like it. I took a dip of it and started reading the can. I went to the website listed and eventually came to Kill the Can. I read some other folks stories and look at some gruesome pics. I still took out the my real can out and put in a real dip. I read some more stories and looked at more pics which finally I said to myself, enough. I got off of work at 10pm. I have a hour drive home which I didn’t have a dip. I said if I can do that let’s go a little more. 3 days passed I knew the nic was out of my system. Ok, now it’s just a mind game. I didn’t sign on with a quit group right away on Kill the Can. After about a week, I drank the kool-aid and was signed up. With a group we all went through the same emotions. What helped was making that promise not to use for 24 hours. A promise to yourself and to others. You don’t want to break that promise no matter what you are feeling. You don’t want to let yourself down or your quit group family down. In closing, The temptation is always there in the early stages. Resist resist resist. It’s gets a lot better, believe me. Believe in yourself that you can do this. Think about the promise you make. It’s been almost 500 days for me. Im grateful nothing ever happened to my mouth after 30+ years dipping. I quit before any serious issues arose. I pray you do the same. As I said A Little Late on my HOF speech, but well worth the wait
