Chili-Lime – New Flavor From Elicit Herbal Chew

Chili-Lime Elicit Herbal ChewBack in July of last year, I reviewed a new player in the smokeless alternative market called Elicit Herbal Chew.  They’ve got some great flavors and do a nice job of providing an alternative that is very close to real tobacco.  Elicit has expanded their product offering with a new flavor!

Introducing Elicit Herbal Chew – Chili-Lime!!!

Before I start, I’ll go on record as saying I’m typically not a big fan of “flavored” chews.  I’ll also point out as I did in original Elicit review, that they offer several versions of their product, some of which contain nicotine.

PLEASE NOTE: This review ONLY pertains to the NICOTINE FREE version of this flavor.  I have not, and will not try the versions of this flavor that contains nicotine.

Thoughts – Elicit Herbal Chew – Chili-Lime

Great smell upon opening the can.  I can really pick up the hint of lime which is a nice departure.  There aren’t many other “citrus” alternatives out there so if you’re looking for one you’ll want to give this one a try.

Elicit Herbal Chew CanI love the fact they very clearly mark their products with not only a “born on” date but also with the level of nicotine.  The nicotine level is especially crucial in my opinion as I’d hate for folks to get nic when it wasn’t their intent.  The warning label reads “This product contains nicotine.  It is intended for adults age 18 and older. Do not use if pregnant or nursing.”  It would have been nice to have a nicotine-free version of this warning label, but I can’t blame Elicit for using the same label on all versions to save on printing costs.

The flavor here is outstanding.  You get a nice rush of the lime when you pop in your chew (which packs nicely) but it’s not overpowering.  The best way I can describe it is the way you get a hint of lime when you add a lime wedge to a vodka tonic.  The chili is a nice addition here too.  It’s not adding much “flavor” necessarily but it gives you that “kick” that you remember from your dipping days.  I’m not a huge fan of “heat” but this gives that kick that might have been missing from other Elicit flavors.

Good spitability and longevity here.  I tend to keep my chews in for a good half hour or so and I’m thrilled to report that Chili-Lime kept its flavor the whole time.

One negative I have to point out.  I had some issues with the cans in my previous Elicit review.  They’ve made a change to their can, but I can’t say it was a good change.  They previously had screw top tin cans and they’ve gone to a more traditional (though rather thin) plastic tin.  I had a hard time keeping the tin closed and when I packed it I was afraid that the lid was going to fly off and I’d have chew everywhere.  I’ve heard this same issue from a couple of other folks about the new Elicit cans.  At this point I can’t say it was an upgrade.  Hope it’s just a bump in the road as they continue to upgrade their overall offering.

Recommendation

This is a VERY nice flavored chew.  I’m not normally a fan of anything not “traditional” wintergreen, mint, etc. but this is a nice departure for me.  I typically sample these once or twice and put them down… I’ve used nearly the whole can at this point.  You get a nice long chew here with some great overtones of the lime with a “kick” from the chili.  It’s not too hot and the flavors last the whole chew.  The new can is a bit of a letdown but as long as you don’t sit on it you should be OK.

As you know, we’re VERY anti-nicotine at KillTheCan.org so I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that Elicit offers version of their products that contain nicotine.  The above review is about the nicotine-free version of the product and I’d steer you in that direction.  If you’re looking for a bit of citrus goodness in your nicotine-free alternative, this is a strong recommend.

You can find Elicit Herbal Chew on the web at elicitherbalchew.com or visit them on Facebook.  Chili-Lime and their other flavors (wintergreen, mint and cinnamon) are available in single, 5 packs or 10 packs.  Tell em KillTheCan.org sent you!

Chewie… thanks for doing the review on the “new” can from Elicit! Hopefully they (Elicit) takes a look at your review. I could not agree more about the can… one of the Top 3 herbal alternatives with the now worst can on the market. I’ve e-mailed them about the problems I had with the can and never received a response.

The new flavor is not too bad… pretty good twist on citrus. Once again… can is terrible… find a new solution please!
