Hooch Snuff Grape Review – Packs and Traditional

Hooch Snuff Grape 3One of the first product reviews I ever did for the site was way back in 2011 when I reviewed the product offerings from Hooch Snuff. Through the years Hooch has continued to innovate and bring us new flavors and products. I’m thrilled to be back again this morning bringing you another review of their newest flavor – Hooch Snuff Grape! It comes in both a traditional dip version as well as their PACKS (pouches) version.

Hooch Snuff Grape Review

I have to start out by saying that I’ve not traditionally been a fan of flavored dips. I was primarily a Kodiak Wintergreen guy, though to be fair I did have a couple year stint with Skoal Cherry so I guess that’s not true. In any case a Grape flavored dip isn’t something I’d consider in my wheelhouse.

I’m happy to report that this is one of my favorite Hooch flavors to date! This stuff is GREAT. Hooch offers their Grape flavor in four varieties so there’s something for everyone: traditional, rough cut, PACKS (pouches) and FAT PACKS (big pouches). I sampled the traditional and PACKS varieties and I can say the flavor is remarkably consistent across the different product lines.

I will say that the traditional was a bit ‘hotter’ then the PACK version. Hooch has an ingredients section on their site here: https://hoochsnuff.com/ingredients. They don’t have it broken out by specific product so I can only assume there’s a touch more Cayenne Pepper in the traditional variety then is in the PACK version. Either that or the pouch is making the flavor more mellow. Either way, they both have a super deep grape flavor and outstanding smell upon opening the tin.

Note that unlike some (most) other pouch products on the market, Hooch PACKS come DRY. While this may seem like you got a bad batch let me assure you that’s not the case. Check out my original review of Hooch PACKS for more on that discussion.

If you’re into spitting both produce an incredible amount of dark brown saliva that will really ‘get your juices flowing’. Sorry… that was a terrible line. Forget I said it… I’m only on my first cup of coffee.

One thing that I do have to point out that is admittedly pretty nit picky and will probably not affect anyone else. The TOP of the can doesn’t tell you whether you’ve got the PACK product or the traditional variety. You can only tell that based on the side of the can. I’m sure that’s done to keep printing / production costs down and I’m sure I would have made the same choice.

HUGE props to Hooch for continuing to put a ‘best by’ date on the bottom of their cans. There’s nothing worse than popping open a fresh can to realize it’s older than dirt. Hooch ensures that this will never happen. It’s the little things that go a long way for me.
